Overpopulation: are there too many of us?

In the past two centuries, human population on Earth has increased rapidly and exponentially. The resources provided by Earth however have not been able to keep up and are being exploited at unsustainable levels. The rising pressure on Earth as human populations grow is extremely alarming as the result has caused immense damage to our environment and societies; this pressing issue has come to been known as Overpopulation. The various effects linked to the issue have been predicted throughout time, but over the past few decades these effects have become increasingly visible and come with great costs. Greater measures must be taken in efforts to reduce resource consumption and the rate at which populations are growing, although these efforts are often resisted from opposing views. Will the rapidly increasing number of humans outstrip all that Earth can sustain resulting in the demise of the human race? It may or may not be possible, nevertheless action must be taken to ensure that this theory does not become a reality.
