Crop Rotation: How does crop rotation cultivate agricultural productivity and enhance sustainability

In today’s society, the majority of agricultural food production practises are quite detrimental and often environmentally unsustainable. As the human population continues to grow exponentially, the global demand for food intensifies. Thereby making the reformation of today’s agricultural practises as well as combating food production climate change related challenges crucial. Crop rotation is an agricultural system in which farmers rotate different crops on the same land. Adopting crop rotation can be the solution that farmers require because it not only cultivates agricultural productivity by increasing yields, it also enhances sustainability. Crop rotation can reduce many negative environmental impacts often associated with production when implemented in the farming system because it encourages stability within soil structure, which creates prosperous soil and also aids in reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions because it reduces the use of synthetic fertilizers, decreasing the amount of residual runoff pollution. Our presentation will include the study of areas such as: the environmental benefits, crop productivity, technological-economy components, government policy, social factors as well as COVID-19 food challenges. In conclusion, regardless of whether a farm is on a smaller or more extensive scale, adopting crop rotation would benefit the industry itself and sustain the population worldwide.
